William C. Golden was a partner in, and a member of the federal tax group of, the law firm of Sidley Austin Brown & Wood (formerly Sidley & Austin) prior to his retirement in 2000. While with that firm he represented a number of public charities, private foundations, and trade associations such as the American Medical Association and the American Hospital Association. He graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1957 and Columbia University Law School in 1960.

Following his retirement, Mr. Golden has taught tax and nonprofit organization courses at the law schools of the University of California (Berkeley), Northwestern University, and the University of Wisconsin (Madison).
