Matthew X. Etchemendy
Max Etchemendy is a Law and Philosophy Fellow at the University of Chicago Law School. He received a J.D. from Stanford Law School in 2012 and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Stanford University in 2016. He served as a law clerk to Chief Judge Merrick Garland on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit (2012–2013) and to Justice Anthony Kennedy on the Supreme Court of the United States (2013–2014).
His research is primarily in jurisprudence and legal philosophy, focusing on the intersection of jurisprudence and metaethics. Other research interests include normative ethics, metaethics, American and Scandinavian legal realism, and medieval law.
