Charles L. Edwards
Charles L. Edwards is Senior Counsel with the law firm of DLA Piper LLP (US), where he has practiced since 1968 and was a partner for 30 years. He concentrates his practice exclusively in the area of complex commercial real estate transactions, including purchase and sale; mortgage financing; leasing; joint ventures and partnerships; condominium development and conversion; cooperative housing transactions; general development and all other aspects of commercial real estate practice. He received a BBA in 1962 with highest honors from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Beta Gamma Sigma, and received his JD in 1965 from the University of Chicago Law School. He is listed under Illinois Real Estate Lawyers in the current editions of The Best Lawyers in America, Who's Who Legal: The International Who's Who of Business Lawyers, PLC Global Counsel Corporate Real Estate Handbook, and Chamber's USA America's Leading Business Lawyers, where he is identified as a senior statesmen nationally in real estate. He is a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers, American College of Mortgage Attorneys, and the Lawyers Club of Chicago.
Mr. Edwards is a member and past chairman (1992–93) and vice-chair (1991–92) of the Chicago Bar Association's Real Property Law Committee and past chair of the Real Property Finance and Continuing Legal Education Subcommittees of the Real Property Law Committee. He was an adjunct professor of law at the John Marshall Law School, where he taught Real Estate Finance Law in the Real Estate Law LLM program. He is also real estate law adviser to various programs at the Mandel Legal Aid Clinic at the University of Chicago Law School and has lectured and written extensively on real property law and practice issues.
