April’s Volunteer of the Month, Pat Maxwell, ’17, has dedicated his pro bono service to coordinating the University of Chicago Law School’s student participation in the Hyde Park Neighborhood Club (HPNC). HPNC provides afterschool programming for children whose parents would otherwise struggle to send their kids to extracurricular activities.

Alli Hugi, '18, Named January's Pro Bono Volunteer of the Month

The Pro Bono Board has named Alli Hugi, ’18, January’s Volunteer of the Month. Since starting Law School, Alli has regularly volunteered at Instituto del Progreso Latino’s (IDPL) citizenship workshops, assisting permanent residents in applying for American citizenship.

Feeling the Power of Pro Bono

Pro bono work can offer students not just a feel-good experience but the opportunity to develop tools, skills, and perspectives that make them better lawyers, regardless of the area of law they plan to pursue after graduation.

On a snowy day in Jordan earlier this month, Andrew C. Adair, ’15, gathered with a family of Syrian refugees around the tiny heat lamp in their living room, listening as they told their stories.
