OFF-CAMPUS INTERVIEW SERVICES
Off-Campus Interview Programs
Although the University of Chicago Law School does not have any off-campus interview programs set up for employers and students outside of Chicago, you will see University of Chicago law students at several off-campus interview programs throughout the year. These programs are jointly sponsored with other law schools and/or organizations and are typically targeted at specific employer or student groups. The University of Chicago Law School typically participates in the following off-campus interview programs:
- The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office Prosecutorial Opportunity Symposium
- The Cook County Bar Association’s Minority Student Job Fair
- City of Chicago Legal Job Fair
- Chicago Bar Association Young Lawyers’ Section Pro Bono and Community Service Volunteer Fair
- The Equal Justice Works Career Fair
- Lavender Law Career Fair
- The Patent Law Interview Program
- The Overseas-Trained LL.M. Student Interview Program
- The Midwest Public Interest Law Career Conference
- National Black Prosecutors Association Job Fair
Video Conference Interviews
Video conference interviews can be arranged upon request. Employers should extend the video conference interview invitation to the student first and establish a mutually convenient date and time. The student should then be directed to our office, and we will help them make the necessary arrangements to coordinate the video conference. For more information contact Kate Brady at bradyk@uchicago.edu or (773) 702-9625.
LL.M. Student Recruiting
Many of our LL.M. students are seeking either short-term or permanent positions in the United States upon graduation. Virtually all of them are experienced attorneys licensed to practice law in their country. Each winter (late January) in New York City, they actively participate in the Overseas-Trained LL.M. Student Interview Program. We welcome the opportunity to assist employers in hiring LL.M. students throughout the year by planning either an on-campus or off-campus visit, or resume and cover letter forwarding. We are happy to help you plan and coordinate your recruiting efforts. For more information contact Susan Staab at sstaab@law.uchicago.edu or (773) 702-9625.
The International Internship Program
The International Internship Program seeks to bring together J.D. students interested in an international practice experience in countries outside of the U.S. with employers who will provide significant practice experience and supervision during the summer of 2009. Students who have completed one year of study are eligible for employment consideration. Employers interested in participating or learning more about this program should contact Susan Staab at sstaab@law.uchicago.edu or (773) 702-9625.
Summer Judicial Internship Program
The Office of Career Services administers a judicial internship program to help connect students with judges who are interested in having volunteer interns work for them during the summer. Recognizing the significant educational and experiential benefits of working in a judge’s chambers, we strongly encourage our students to consider these positions when they are searching for summer employment. In recent years approximately 15% of the 1L class had participated in internships with a judge. For more information contact Lois Casaleggi at lcasaleggi@law.uchicago.edu or (773) 702-6705.
firm wise
In response to increasing employer requests for more visibility among our students, the Office of Career Services sponsors firm•wise, a spring (early April) event timed in advance of the fall on-campus interview bid process during the summer. Employers will have the opportunity to meet and talk with 1L law students in an informal setting replete with light refreshments. Since space is limited, firm• wise is by invitation only. If you are interested in participating, please contact Paul Woo at p-woo1@uchicago.edu or (773) 834-0918.
