Sponsorship opportunties
Please note that this list of opportunities represents only a fraction of the student activities that occur throughout the year. If there are other student groups or types of events in which your firm would be interested in participating, please let us know on your registration form. As these additional opportunities arise throughout the academic year, we will contact members with more details.
1L Post Exam Parties – Fall and Spring
At the conclusion of 1L exams in both the Fall and Spring quarters, students have a lunch in the Green Lounge with faculty to celebrate the conclusion of their first set of finals and their last set of finals of their 1L year.
2L/3L Finals Study Breaks – Fall, Winter, and Spring
During finals week, in each of our three academic quarters, study snacks and pizza will be offered in the early evening in the Green Lounge for all of our students as they prepare
for exams. Representatives from your firm are welcome to attend.
Admitted Students Weekend
In early April, all admitted students for the Class of 2010 will be invited to a weekend of events at the Law School to help them make the decision to come to the University of Chicago. Each year, nearly 70% of admitted students who attend the April Admitted Students Weekend enroll for the next Fall's class. Multiple firms are invited to sponsor the entire weekend, including academic events, a minority admitted student reception, the final round of the Law School Trivia Contest (the winning student team faces a team of faculty members for a lively meeting of the minds), and informal meetings between current and admitted students.
Black History Month
A series of events are being planned throughout the month of February by the Black Law Students Association to celebrate Black History month.
Chicago's Best Ideas Lecture Series
At least once per quarter a member of our law faculty is invited to present his or her most recent work to the students in an interactive discussion over lunch. Past Chicago's Best Ideas speakers have included Dean Saul Levmore, Martha Nussbaum, and Richard Helmholz, speaking, respectively, about public choice, animal rights and baseball.
Chicago Law Foundation Auction
The Chicago Law Foundation (CLF) is a student-directed, not-for profit group that awards grants to law students who devote their summers to working in the public interest. CLF raises most of the money for its summer grant programs from law students, many of whom donate a portion of their summer earnings; some law firms also match their summer associates' contributions to CLF. CLF conducts an annual Charity Auction in February to raise additional grant funds. Sponsorship for the CLF Auction underwrites the cost of food for the event. Representatives from your firm are welcome to attend.
Coffee Mess
A newer tradition at the Law School, Coffee Mess was added to offer coffee, bagels, and doughnuts to students and faculty every Wednesday morning in the Green Lounge throughout the academic year. Representatives from your firm are welcome to meet students during this event.
Diversity Week
Diversity Week is a week-long celebration of the diversity of races, backgrounds, and ideas at the Law School. Lectures, panel discussions, and social events will be hosted by a wide variety of student groups in February.
End of Year BBQ
The Law School Student Association holds a BBQ on campus each spring to celebrate the end of classes for all law students. Representatives from your law firm are welcome to meet students at this social event.
Office of Admissions Events
The Office of Admissions holds a series of regional events from February through April.
Office of Career Services Events
The Office of Career Services holds special events with student groups throughout the year, including Diversity Week and Public Interest Week. In addition, Career Services offers career-specific and job search skills panels for students. Please let us know if you would be interested in sponsoring events with the Office of Career Services (indicate your area(s) of interest and expertise on your registration form) and we will contact you with more details.
On-Campus Interviewing Student Lunches
Your firm may host a buffet lunch for second- and third-year students participating in the On-Campus Interviewing process August 28- September 12, 2007. Lunch will be served in the Green Lounge on the day your firm is conducting interviews, and representatives from your firm are encouraged to interact with the students.
Orientation Week
This year, we are seeking up to ten firms to help underwrite the Class of 2010 orientation week, including daily lunches, a day of community service, and a variety of social events. As a sponsor of Orientation Week, your firm's logo will appear on promotional items given to all 200 1L students, as well as appearing on signage at the week's events (as appropriate).
Public Service Week
Sponsored by the Public Interest Law Society and the Chicago Law Foundation, Public Service Week is usually held in May. Pro bono work, careers in public service, and volunteerism are encouraged through a series of lecture and social events.
Wine Mess
A Chicago Law student tradition for over forty years, Wine Mess brings students and faculty together every Friday for a happy hour celebration of another week of accomplishment. Wine Mess is held in the Green Lounge of the Law School, the heart of the campus, throughout the academic year, sometimes with special themes such as Cinco de Mayo or Earth Day. Beer, wine, mixed drinks, and soft drinks are all available at bargain prices to students and faculty. Snacks are on the house. Representatives from your firm are welcome to join us and meet students during this social event.
