Fall 2007
Dear Fellow Alumni and Friends,
When I was invited to serve as this year’s Annual Fund Chair, my immediate response was, “Of course!” My primary reason for accepting this position is one that may resonate with you: a deep sense of gratitude for the education I received at Chicago and a desire to support an institution that has greatly enriched my life – both professional and personal.
My main duty as Annual Fund Chair will be to convince you to join me in making a gift to the Law School this year. And while I hope you will give because of what the Law School meant to you five, twenty, or, in my case, more than thirty years ago, I hope you will also give because of what the Law School means to so many students, faculty, and members of the community today.
I recently had the pleasure of interviewing current 2Ls for summer associate positions at my law firm. I was struck by the students’ enthusiasm about the Law School’s faculty – both those faculty members that you and I may have had the pleasure of studying with and those that are more recent additions. The faculty’s continued dedication to rigorous analysis and to spirited differences and debate stood out for these 2Ls as they did for us.
As alumni, we play an integral role in preserving the Chicago tradition we knew and loved, and in supporting the people and programs that carry on that tradition today. Last year, 34% of us made a gift to the Law School, providing vital resources for scholarships, faculty research, clinical programs, and ongoing building renovations.
The Law School has set a goal of 35% alumni participation for this year, but I want to do better – and for that, I’ll need your help. If you have made a gift in the past, I hope that you will do so again. If you have not yet made a gift, I hope this will be the year that you choose to make one, in recognition of the excellent education we received, and in support of the next generation of Chicago students.
Your gift—no matter the size—will make a difference. Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Anne G. Kimball, ’76
2007-2008 Annual Fund Chair
