Lawrence A. Slovensky, '92, has joined King & Spalding as a partner in the litiagtion business practice. Slovensky focuses on class action defense, law firm defense and general commercial litigation. Earlier in his career, he spent five years with EarthLink, Inc., where he managed all of the company’s litigation. He received a J.D.

Donald Cassling, '76, has been appointed to serve on the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Immediately before taking the bench, Cassling worked as a partner at Quarles & Brady LLP who handled bankruptcy and commercial litigation.

Cassling, 61, earned an undergraduate degree at Duke University and a law degree at the University of Chicago Law School.

Ryan C. Tisch has been elected partner in Crowell & Moring's Antitrust Group and is resident in the Washington, D.C. office.  His practice focuses on antitrust business counseling, domestic and international merger control, and government investigations of both horizontal and vertical antitrust conduct.

David E. Kitchen has been elected Partner at Baker Hostetler. He is a member of the Intellectual Property Group and concentrates his practice in the area of intellectual property litigation. He earned his law degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 2004 and his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University in 2001.

The Oregon Supreme Court announced Friday that Thomas A. Balmer has been elected as the court's 42nd chief justice.

Balmer succeeds Chief Justice Paul J. De Muniz, who is stepping down on May 1, 2012, and retiring in Jan. 2013.

Ryan Green, '05, has joined Pircher, Nichols & Meeks as a real estate associate in the Chicago office. Mr. Green received his J.D. in 2005 from the University of Chicago Law School. He received a bachelor’s degree with highest honors in economics and political science from Emory University in 2002.

Miguel Yturbe. LL.M. '11, has joined Greenberg Traurig's Mexico City office as an associate. Yturbe has extensive experience in Project Finance, Securities and Banking. He graduated from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de Mexico Law School in Mexico City and received his LL.M. from the University of Chicago Law School.

Rimon P.C., an international corporate law firm, announced today that Bernays “Buz” Barclay has joined its New York office as a Partner. Mr. Barclay will head a new Energy and Infrastructure Transactions Practice for Rimon, and will augment the Firm’s Startups and Startup Financing Group and its Mergers and Acquisitions Group.
