Russ Winner '75 Among 13 Applicants for Alaska Supreme Court Vacancy
Thirteen attorneys have applied for a soon-to-be vacant position on the Alaska Supreme Court, according to an Alaska Judicial Council announcement on Thursday. Justice Walter L. Carpeneti, who now holds the position, is set to retire in January 2013.
Applicants will be evaluated by the Judicial Council’s seven members: The chief justice, three attorneys, and three non-attorney public members. Applicants will be subject to comprehensive background investigations, personal interviews, and a survey of Alaska Bar members; a public hearing will be held in Anchorage, which has not yet been scheduled. The Council will then select at least two nominees to send to the governor, who will have 45 days to make the appointment from the Council’s list...
