Gov. Gary Herbert has nominated Judge Constandinos Himonas to fill a vacancy on the Utah Supreme Court created by the retirement of Justice Ronald Nehring.

The nomination, which is subject to Senate confirmation, is Herbert’s second as governor. If confirmed, Himonas, who is Greek Orthodox, would be the only non-Mormon on the state’s high court.

SUNY Distinguished Professor James A. Gardner has been named interim dean of the University at Buffalo Law School, UB Provost Charles F. Zukoski announced today.

Gardner is the Bridget and Thomas Black Professor in the UB Law School, a designation he will retain while serving as interim dean. His appointment is effective Dec. 20.

Ward Farnsworth, 83, died at home in Winnetka on December 3, 2014. The cause was complications from congestive heart failure. Ward was born on March 28, 1931, the son of Eber Ward and Mary Meyering Farnsworth. He grew up in Libertyville and Lake Forest and graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy and Yale University.
